RDA communications tools

Postby Gary » Fri Mar 22, 2013 12:25 pm

We have heard from the RDA community that the current forum and other communication tools are lacking.
Mark Allan Parsons posted on the Rda-all mailing list the following Q- What are the basic requirementsts for RDA communication tools?

We see five key requirements:

1. The notice board must be visible publicly on the web, but also allow notifications and responses through email.
2. A file repository (ideally versioned)
3. A WYSIWG wiki like document editor
4. A single login (ideally linked to other services like Facebook or Google)
5. A web conferencing tool.

Are these correct? Are there other key requirements? Any suggested tools?

Please send suggestions/ideas by the end of the day Monday, 25 March to this list. We want to get something up as soon as possible.

Thank you for your input.

I got the feeling from the mailing list discussion that the issues and options were broad enough that a Task Force to address the issue might be appropriate. In terms of the issues you summarised here, I don't think there was universal liking for linking the login to another service such as Facebook unless this was as an optional extra.

RDA Mailing list problems

Postby stotzka » Fri Mar 29, 2013 7:54 am

Currently we are receiving mailing list subscription requests like
The Rda-cwg-terminology@lists.rd-alliance.org mailing list has 3
request(s) waiting for your consideration at:

http://lists.lists.rd-alliance.org/mail ... erminology

Please attend to this at your earliest convenience. This notice of
pending requests, if any, will be sent out daily.

Pending subscriptions:
newboys2013@gmail.com (newboys2013) Mon Mar 25 21:12:04 2013
newboy2013@gmail.com (Download epub ebooks) Tue Mar 26 08:30:36 2013
lujdna@juytmy.com (penasdmfbla) Tue Mar 26 12:58:11 2013

Obviously the first two "boys" are spam, but it is getting harder to decide because
many subscription requests don't state their real names.

We need a kind of "policy" whom to accept, at least a full name and affiliation should be stated.

Dear Rainer,

It is hard to decide. So far our very informal policy has been to do what we think best on a case-by-case basis.
In case of doubt I usually send an email.

Cheers,

Herman

Communications and collaboration platform are key to development of any community. My own organization, Opoen Health Systems Laboratory, has been working in this area and would like to learn and share with RDA colleagues. I am going to talk to my colleagues who are working on our C&C platform to seek their participation.
